Making the Most of February’s 28 Days

Posted on: January 31, 2022

Check out Local Happenings in Detroit, Farmington Hills and Grand Rapids!

Check out Local HappeningsThe winter season in Michigan starts December 1 and runs through March 7 (at least!). As the calendar turns to February, you’ll have one to two months left to enjoy seasonal activities and events in Detroit, Farmington Hills, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Whether you’re looking for outdoor fun, Broadway-quality theatre, or winter festivals, you’ll find plenty of opportunities on our list!

February happenings in Detroit

Enjoy some of the ‘80s most famous songs during Officer and a Gentleman at the Fisher Theatre from February 1-13. Take in the stunning beauty of the venue that opened in 1928 and features marble, Indian rosewood, and walnut paneling with crystal and bronze highlights.

Feeling more adventurous? Brave Detroit’s chilly February weather and register for Cupid’s Undie Run on February 12. Proceeds from the (almost) mile-long run and dance party hosted in cities across the U.S. benefit children with Neurofibromatosis (NF). NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and affects 1 in every 3,000 births.

Events to make February fantastic in Grand Rapids

The World of Winter Festival is happening now through March 6 in downtown Grand Rapids. Check out more than 40 interactive art installations and admire over 50 ice sculptures. The event also includes movies, performances, walking tours, fitness classes, and games, all free, outdoors, and for all ages!

Hamilton is showing from February 8th through 20th at the DeVos Performance Hall located inside the Grand Rapids Convention Center. You can still get tickets for the Tony Award-winning musical that explores the life of American founding father, Alexander Hamilton.

Winter Beer Festival 2022 - The 16th Annual Winter Beer Festival will occur on Saturday, February 26. During this popular event, Michigan beer is the highlight, featuring hundreds of local brews from Michigan's finest. Sip a cold one while warming near fire pits and enjoy local music, performers, ice sculptures, and carving demonstrations.

Adventures for February in Farmington Hills

The Farmington Hills Chili Golf Open returns on February 12 for golfers ready to banish the winter blues. Eight holes, two tee times, prizes, and a chili and hot dog lunch promise lots of fun. The event fee is $35 and is open to golfers aged 16 and up. Call 248-473-1800 to register.

The Stroll with Your Sweetheart event on February 14 is a candle-lit hike through Heritage Park. The nature walk highlights information about courtship among woodland creatures and ends with a warm drink and sweets at the Farmington Nature Center.

The Farmington Players present Tokens of Affection each weekend beginning February 11 at Farmington’s iconic venue, The Barn. You’ll get a laugh-out-loud glimpse into a family dealing with life turned upside down with poignant realizations along the way.
