Suggestions from Your Michigan Bank

Child-collegeAs the calendar turns to November, thoughts shift to holiday gatherings with family and friends. Teams at banks in Michigan compiled a list of holiday, memory-making opportunities in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids.

Detroit Holiday Events in 2021

Mark your calendar for holiday fun in Detroit!

  • Beginning November 20th through January 2nd, try ice skating at The Rink at Campus Martius Park. Surrounded by holiday lights in the heart of downtown Detroit on famous Woodward Avenue, the ice rink offers skaters a magical experience. You can buy tickets onsite at the park or by calling 313-963-9393.
  • Celebrate the season on November 19th with the Christmas Tree Lighting at Campus Martius Park. Sample holiday food and drink, take a carriage ride, or visit Santa at this free event.
  • On November 25th, bring your mittens and hot drinks to Woodward Avenue to watch the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Grand Rapids Holiday Fun in 2021

On the west side of Michigan, banks in Grand Rapids named several unique experiences to share for the holidays.

  • The Santa Train starts running on November 27th through December 19th in Coopersville, about 18 miles northwest of Grand Rapids. Enjoy heated, decorated railcars, storytelling, and a visit with Santa during your 90-minute journey.
  • Take a winter horse-drawn sleigh ride throughout the greater Grand Rapids area. Whether you travel through the downtown area or wooded wonderlands, your trip will be cozy and fun.
  • Enjoy holiday music, ballet, or theatre in various venues across the city. Experience the magic of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet, the excitement of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, or a musical version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
  • And extend the family fun through Winter Break with a variety of outdoor activities, indoor sports, or a trip to Meijer Garden to learn about holidays around the world.

Banks in Ann Arbor chose a variety of fun-filled activities for the season.

  • Enjoy a brisk morning and celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with the whole family at the Ann Arbor Thanksgiving Turkey Day Trot!
  • Get your holiday shopping done on November 21st at Ann Arbor’s Holiday Market Extravaganza at Briarwood Mall from 11am – 6pm.
  • December 4th marks Holiday Night at the Museum in Wayne, about 20 miles east of Ann Arbor. Tour the historical museum while enjoying cookies, cocoa, caroling, and carnival games.
  • Or travel to the quaint city of Manchester near Ann Arbor on December 3rd and 4th for a Village Christmas. Craft shows, decorating contests, caroling karaoke, and a scavenger hunt offer fun for everyone in the family.
  • For a one-of-a-kind experience on December 24th, say hello to Santa as he paddles his brightly lit canoe with his canine helper elves Jake and Boo on the Huron River.
