2021 Highlights from Your Michigan Bank

Posted on: December 27, 2021

Helping Our Clients and Our Community

Jackson Habitat for HumanityThe 2021 year brought on a myriad of challenges for companies, communities, and you, our clients and friends. The Level One Bank team strived to reduce financial stress and clear paths to help you realize your goals and achieve your dreams.

We've talked with our banks in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids, MI, to get their perspectives on some of the bright spots of 2021 at Level One Bank.

Aiding Small Businesses

  • The year began with our teams hard at work helping businesses during the 2nd round of the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
    • During the second round of PPP, Level One Bank helped more than 1,500 local businesses gain access to over $234 million in PPP loans.
    • The PPP is an SBA-backed forgivable loan that originated from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to help small businesses continue paying their workforce during the pandemic. Funds supported up to 8 weeks of payroll and benefits and also helped pay mortgages, rents, utilities and more.
  • We continued supporting local businesses with the Elevate small business grant program that offers applicants up to $25,000 to assist with a variety of business needs.

Supporting Local Families and Homeowners

  • Homeownership supports families and builds communities. In 2021, we facilitated nearly $200,000 in grant funds to low-to-moderate income homeowners for vital home repairs, accessibility improvements, and down-payment assistance for first-time homebuyers.
  • Additionally, Level One Bank developed the Homeownership Boost program that provides up to $1,500 in closing cost credits for qualifying home buyers or those refinancing a mortgage.

Giving Back to our Communities

  • Community is the cornerstone of Level One Bank. We partner with countless organizations and community leaders to make a positive impact on the regions we serve. Through volunteering, teaching financial literacy, facilitating grant programs, donating monetary contributions, and more, our team members continue to make a difference in our local communities.

Awards and Recognition

  • With our continued growth and success, we were honored to be recognized among Crain’s Detroit Business Fast 50: Southeast Michigan's fastest-growing companies of 2021.
  • For the 9th consecutive year, Level One Bank was pleased to be named one of Metro Detroit’s 2021 “Best and Brightest Companies to Work For”.

Organizational News and Expansion

  • In July, we announced the promotion of Timothy R. Mackay, former EVP of Consumer Banking, to President of Level One Bank. Patrick Fehring remains as CEO and Chairman.
  • In November, we announced our agreement to merge with and into First Merchants Bank, expanding the resources and service offerings available to our clients.
    • When the merger is complete in 2022, our combined organization will have over 120 locations throughout Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. We’ll continue to build on our strong customer-focused history, local responsiveness, and commitment to the communities we serve.

We’re proud to be your Michigan bank and appreciate the opportunity to serve you! We look forward to continuing our support of our local families, businesses, and communities in 2022.

“Community leadership is the courage, creativity, and capacity to inspire participation, development, and sustainability for strong communities.”
